SAINT® Disclaimer: Look-Alike Programs Are Not SAINT®

Written by Neuro Wellness TMS Centers of AmericaMedically reviewed by Daniel Pietras, MDPublished November 3, 2026Last medically reviewed November 3, 2026Last updated November 3, 2026

Cognitive FX does not provide SAINT®. Its 5-day “fMRI-guided accelerated TMS” program is a different, off-label treatment, and Cognitive FX is not affiliated with SAINT®, Magnus Medical, Stanford University, or Neuro Wellness TMS Centers of America. SAINT’s published results — including 78.6% remission in the 2022 randomized controlled trial — come only from SAINT® and should not be expected from any look-alike program.

Key takeaways

• Cognitive FX does not provide SAINT®. Its 5-day “fMRI-guided accelerated TMS” program is a different treatment.
• Cognitive FX states it is “not affiliated with, endorsed by or licensed by Stanford University or Magnus Medical” and “does not use Magnus Medical equipment or software.”
• SAINT’s 78.6% remission result (Cole et al., 2022) comes only from SAINT® on the FDA-cleared Magnus system — not from any “alternative” or “fMRI-guided” program.
• Copying SAINT’s 5-day schedule does not copy the FDA-cleared targeting the trials tested.
• Neuro Wellness in Coral Springs, Florida is the verified SAINT® provider listed on Magnus Medical’s locator.

The short version

Cognitive FX is not SAINT®, in its own words

You don’t have to take our word for it. Cognitive FX’s own website says:

• “our own protocol, delivered off-label” (source)
• “rather than using Magnus Medical’s proprietary targeting system” (source)

• “CFX’s program is an off-label equivalent of the SAINT protocol, not the licensed Magnus SAINT™ product” (source)

What “alternative”, “equivalent” and “fMRI-guided” do NOT mean

“Alternative” or “equivalent”: A clinic calling its program an alternative or equivalent to SAINT® is a marketing description. It does not mean the program is SAINT®, is FDA-cleared as SAINT®, or produces SAINT’s results.

“fMRI-guided”: SAINT® is the only FDA-cleared system that uses an fMRI scan to personalize where TMS is aimed (FDA 510(k) K220177). Other programs that mention fMRI use their own targeting, which is not FDA-cleared for this purpose. Having an fMRI scan in the program does not make it SAINT®.

Same schedule ≠ same treatment: Copying SAINT’s 5 days and session count does not copy the FDA-cleared targeting the trials tested. A program that was not studied in the SAINT trials can’t claim the SAINT trials’ results.

Results disclaimer

SAINT® response and remission rates published in peer-reviewed research (Cole et al., Am J Psychiatry 2022;179:132–141) apply only to SAINT® delivered with the FDA-cleared Magnus Medical system under the SAINT protocol. They do not apply to, and should not be used to set expectations for, any off-label, look-alike, “fMRI-guided”, “accelerated” or “alternative” TMS program, including Cognitive FX’s. Individual results with SAINT® also vary, and no outcome is guaranteed.

Price disclaimer: the prices can’t be compared

Cognitive FX publishes $9,900 for its 5-day program and states that travel and lodging are extra. That is the price of a different, off-label treatment, not a discounted SAINT®. SAINT® at Neuro Wellness starts at $25,000 for the full FDA-cleared course, has a Medicare payment rate, and may be approved by commercial insurance through prior authorization. Is SAINT® TMS Right for You?

Tried antidepressants without enough relief? SAINT® TMS is an FDA-cleared, fMRI-guided treatment for adults with major depressive disorder who have not improved enough with antidepressant medication.

SAINT® uses a personalized brain target and delivers treatment over five consecutive days. It differs from standard TMS in its targeting approach, treatment schedule, and research background. In a small randomized trial, 11 of 14 people receiving active treatment reached remission at the four-week assessment, compared with 2 of 15 receiving sham treatment. Results vary, and a five-day treatment course does not guarantee remission in five days.

How SAINT® Works and How It Differs From Conventional TMS

SAINT® is an FDA-cleared treatment for adults with major depressive disorder who have not improved on antidepressants in the current episode. This video explains how it works, and how it differs from conventional TMS.

Conventional TMS usually means about 30 visits over 6 to 9 weeks. SAINT is five visits over five days.

What makes it different: SAINT is the only FDA-cleared depression treatment that uses an fMRI scan to personalize the stimulation target to your individual brain. A 45-minute scan maps your brain and identifies the specific circuit linked to depression. Treatment is then delivered as ten 10-minute sessions per day, with 50-minute breaks between them, across five consecutive days.

In clinical trials, 79% of participants reached remission, with an average of 2.6 days to remission. SAINT is generally well tolerated; the most common side effects reported were mild headache and temporary scalp discomfort at the treatment site.
