Nobody warned you about this part
You worked for decades. Long weeks, real responsibility, a place where people needed you and knew your name.
Then it ended, on schedule, the way it was supposed to.
And the quiet turned out to be a different thing than you'd pictured. The days are long. The structure that organized your life is gone. The people you saw daily for years are somewhere else now, and the friends who remain are dealing with their own health, or have moved, or have died.
You may have found ways to fill it — volunteering, a class, something to leave the house for. That helps. It doesn't fix it.
Why this often goes unaddressed
Because it gets treated as normal. Because people say "of course you're down, you retired" or "at your age, that's expected," as though depression later in life is a natural feature of getting older rather than a treatable condition.
It isn't expected. And depression at 70 responds to treatment the same way it does at 40.
Practical things worth knowing
Medicare Part B covers SPRAVATO®, with prior authorization. That's a meaningful difference from some advanced treatments where coverage is limited or unavailable.
Two notes on cost: the manufacturer's savings program does not apply to Medicare or Medicaid patients, and the required observation visit is billed separately from the medication. Both matter for understanding what you'd actually pay, and we'll give you a real number before you start rather than an estimate.
Transportation is the practical question. You can't drive after a session — you'll need a ride every visit, and sessions start at twice weekly. Worth sorting out before you begin.
Your health history matters. SPRAVATO® should not be used by people with aneurysmal vascular disease, arteriovenous malformation, or a history of intracerebral hemorrhage. Blood pressure is monitored at every session. Bring your full medication list to the consultation.
SPRAVATO® is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and carries a boxed warning worth reading before you decide anything.
Important Safety Information
BOXED WARNING: SPRAVATO® can cause sedation, dissociation, respiratory depression, abuse and misuse, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. SPRAVATO® is only available through a restricted program called the SPRAVATO® REMS.
SPRAVATO® can cause sleepiness, fainting, dizziness, spinning sensation, anxiety, dissociation, and breathing problems. Patients must be monitored by a healthcare provider for at least 2 hours after each dose. There is a risk of abuse and misuse, which may lead to physical and psychological dependence. Antidepressant medicines may increase suicidal thoughts and actions in some people 24 years of age and younger. SPRAVATO® is not for use in children.
Do not take SPRAVATO® if you have aneurysmal vascular disease, an arteriovenous malformation, a history of bleeding in the brain, or an allergy to esketamine or ketamine.
Do not drive or operate machinery until the next day after a restful sleep.
The most common side effects include feeling disconnected from yourself, your thoughts, feelings and surroundings; dizziness; nausea; sleepiness; spinning sensation; numbness; anxiety; lack of energy; increased blood pressure; vomiting; feeling drunk; headache; and feeling very happy or excited. If these occur, they usually happen right after taking SPRAVATO® and go away the same day.
Neuro Wellness TMS Centers of America is a certified SPRAVATO® REMS treatment center. SPRAVATO® is only available at healthcare settings certified in the SPRAVATO® REMS program and must be self-administered under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Please see the full Prescribing Information, including Boxed Warnings, and the Medication Guide, and discuss any questions with your healthcare provider.
