Is SAINT® TMS Right for You?
Tried antidepressants without enough relief? SAINT® TMS is an FDA-cleared, fMRI-guided treatment for adults with major depressive disorder who have not improved enough with antidepressant medication.
SAINT® uses a personalized brain target and delivers treatment over five consecutive days. It differs from standard TMS in its targeting approach, treatment schedule, and research background. In a small randomized trial, 11 of 14 people receiving active treatment reached remission at the four-week assessment, compared with 2 of 15 receiving sham treatment. Results vary, and a five-day treatment course does not guarantee remission in five days.
How SAINT® Works and How It Differs From Conventional TMS
SAINT® is an FDA-cleared treatment for adults with major depressive disorder who have not improved on antidepressants in the current episode. This video explains how it works, and how it differs from conventional TMS.
Conventional TMS usually means about 30 visits over 6 to 9 weeks. SAINT is five visits over five days.
What makes it different: SAINT is the only FDA-cleared depression treatment that uses an fMRI scan to personalize the stimulation target to your individual brain. A 45-minute scan maps your brain and identifies the specific circuit linked to depression. Treatment is then delivered as ten 10-minute sessions per day, with 50-minute breaks between them, across five consecutive days.
In clinical trials, 79% of participants reached remission, with an average of 2.6 days to remission. SAINT is generally well tolerated; the most common side effects reported were mild headache and temporary scalp discomfort at the treatment site.

Accelerated, fMRI-guided TMS from Stanford
SAINT® (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy) is not standard TMS. It is a distinct, FDA-cleared treatment that uses proprietary equipment and a proprietary targeting algorithm built on science from the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab. It compresses treatment into five consecutive days and uses fMRI to target stimulation to your individual brain connectivity — a faster, more personalized path for treatment-resistant depression.
FDA-Cleared & fMRI-Guided
SAINT® is an FDA-cleared form of TMS that uses fMRI to identify a stimulation target specific to your brain — not standard anatomical landmarks.
5 Days, Not 6 Weeks
Most patients complete SAINT® in one week of consecutive days. Standard TMS runs 5 days a week for 4–6 weeks. SAINT® is a distinct treatment — not just a faster TMS schedule.
Personalized Brain Targeting
Before treatment begins, a resting-state fMRI maps your brain's connectivity so the stimulation target is identified individually — the key difference from one-size-fits-all TMS.
Non-Invasive, No Sedation
You stay awake and alert throughout every session. No anesthesia, no surgery, no systemic side effects. Most people read, listen to music, or rest between sessions.
SAINT® is not the same as standard TMS
SAINT® is a one-of-a-kind, FDA-cleared treatment. It combines proprietary equipment, a proprietary fMRI-guided targeting algorithm, and the science developed at the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab — none of which standard TMS uses. It is delivered only by clinics trained and credentialed as Verified SAINT Providers, not by any TMS clinic advertising "accelerated TMS."

Why Personalized Targeting Matters
Standard TMS uses standard scalp measurements — essentially an approximation. SAINT® uses your own brain imaging to pinpoint your precise stimulation target.

Every Brain's Wiring Is Unique
Just as no two fingerprints are identical, your depression circuitry communicates through specific connection hubs. Magnus Medical's SNT™ algorithm analyzes resting-state fMRI data to locate the subgenual cingulate connectivity node, giving our care team the exact coordinates for coil placement.
What the week looks like
Five consecutive days of intensive, precision-targeted sessions with plenty of restful downtime in our private lounge suites.

Consultation and screening (Zoom web conference)
Your journey starts with a convenient, no-obligation Zoom call with our clinical care team to review your diagnosis, medication history, and fMRI safety. As your evaluation evolves, you have the option to meet with our psychiatrist via Zoom web conference or in person at our clinic.
fMRI brain scan (mandatory in person)
A mandatory in-person resting-state fMRI (roughly 45 minutes) maps your brain's individual circuits. We coordinate the entire imaging order for you at our partner facility.
Personalized targeting
Magnus Medical's SNT™ software maps your brain's connectivity and identifies your individual stimulation target within the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.
Five treatment days (mandatory in person)
Mandatory in-person treatment Monday through Friday in our Coral Springs clinic. Ten 10-minute sessions per day with 50-minute breaks in our private lounge suites. You remain awake and alert throughout.
Follow-up (Zoom or in person)
Your care team and psychiatrist monitor your progress after remission, with flexible follow-up consultations available either in person or via Zoom web conference.

Personalized fMRI Brain Targeting
A resting-state functional MRI maps your brain's individual connectivity to pinpoint the exact stimulation target within the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex before treatment starts.

- Tried at least two antidepressants without adequate improvement
- Able to attend five consecutive full days
- Able to have an fMRI
Not eligible
- Non-removable metal or magnetic-sensitive materials within 30 cm (12 inches) of the treatment coil — including aneurysm clips, bullet fragments, ocular implants, and stents
- Active or inactive implanted devices: pacemakers, deep brain stimulators, cochlear implants, or vagus nerve stimulators
- Increased intracranial pressure
- Intracardiac lines or implanted medication pumps
These contraindications reflect the FDA-cleared SAINT® Neuromodulation System label. Your provider will screen for all of these during your consultation.

How SAINT® Compares to Other Depression Treatments
When you've tried two or more medications without enough relief, the two numbers that matter most are remission rate and average time to remission.
| Treatment | SAINT® | ECT | TMS | Medication |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Remission rate | 79–90% | 48% | 17–32% | 14% |
| Time to remission | 2.6 days | 3 weeks | 3.5 weeks | 6–12 weeks |
